Vorderkaser Ravine in St. Martin near Lofer
The Vorderkaser Ravine, located between St. Martin near Lofer and Weissbach near Lofer, was declared as a natural monument in 1977. The Vorderkaser Ravine was first made accessible to visitors in 1882.

At the end of the ice age, as the glacial ice melted some 12000 to 14000 years ago, the creation of the Vorderkaser Ravine started. The water quantity slowly bevelled deeper into the cliffs, and left an imposing ravine along the ödenbach. By the way, the stone is still being abraded today at a pace of about 6mm per year.
The Vorderkaser Ravine is now 400m long, 80m deep, 80cm narrow at the bottom and 6m wide at the top. A total of 51 footbridges with 35 stairs and 373 steps lead through the Vorderkaser Ravine.

The way to the Vorderkaser Ravine leads 2.5 km in the middle through a wonderful valley under nature conservation. The Vorderkaser recuperation and nature bathing area is located there. You can be entertained culinary in an Alpine snack bar at the entrance to the Vorderkaser Ravine. You have the possibility to park for free directly in front of the ravine and the snack bar, and immediately start an extensive hike from the interior of the natural conservation area. Or you can just relax in peace, far away from noise and hectic.

The Orchid Path; a new additional highlight, nice to see and informative.

The Vorderkaser Ravine and the Alpine snack bar are open from early Mai till end of October.

TIP:
The entrance to the Vorderkaser Ravine is free wit the Salzburger Saalachtal Summer Card. You can also visit the Orchid Path along with the Vorderkaser Ravine.
